Smile in Any Language

He slurped his tea. I chuckled while gesturing to him, “Good?” He said something to which I replied “Okay!” He mimicked “Okay!”

When it was time to eat we spoke in different languages which neither of us understood; he’d speak in Chinese and I, in English. While eating he gave me his yogurt, which he had already opened. I’m not perfectly sure why he did that, but I believe he wanted to share his yogurt with me. I pointed to my stomach and said “full” to which he said something in Chinese with considerable interest. I have no idea what he said. He stared at my screen and even changed his so that it would resemble mine. I pointed to the screen to see the view of the cockpit and smiled, and when I turned around he greeted me with a smile.

We didn’t understand each other but our smiles compensated for that.

I don’t know him, but he seemed like a nice person. There are many races and languages in this world, but though we may not fully understand each other, a smile and act of love can convey what words may not.
