Hiking in the Faroes
Breathtaking coastal cliffs, vibrant green landscapes, and sunny valleys make the Faroe Islands one the most scenic places to hike. Located between Iceland and Denmark, it offers stunning trails and steep cliffs with peeping puffins. I don’t think I had planned on it, but there I was, about to hike for an entire day. I enjoy the outdoors and hiking so I was stoked about this new exploration.
From the capital , Torshavn, I met up with the hiking group and after meeting the local guide, and introducing ourselves, we set out for what I would consider a moderate to moderately strenuous hike. I made a video with a Faroese guy I had met; he was surprised I was visiting his country and wanted to capture some video footage. I’m not sure if he still has the footage, but it would be interesting to view it after all this time.
Wisps of emotions.
The trail would be a guide to peace, and the beams of sunshine would shine to lighten the way.
The trail started out fairly easy but gradually became steep and rocky. When I looked behind on where we had started, it felt like I would roll down the hill. It was that steep! The hills appeared sudden and sharp, but the dramatic views compensated for that. I wasn’t wearing hiking shoes, but I embraced the tranquility.
The local guide showed us a nest from a soaring bird’s cliff. I looked at it then gazed at the sheer cliffs of beautiful mountain scenery. Of course, I was careful with every step I made.
From cosy villages and rolling green hills, to grazing sheep and seabirds, I was engaging with nature.
I stood there breathing in the fresh air, while taking in the beautiful views of the thick blanket of fog that sat on the top of the mountains.
It all came with an unmatched quietness.
By the time I got to the peak, my camera battery had faded into the clouds, but the memories remain alive, even to this day.
