Bungy Jumping

The first extreme sport I did was bungy jumping. I signed the waiver, got ready, then made my way to the jumping platform. I was strapped in and ready to go!

Walking to the edge of the jumping board was not easy. I am not sure if I walked like a penguin, but in that present palpable moment, on that platform, on the edge, I knew I was going to do it, even if a little frisson tickled me.

As I stood at the edge and gazed down, my mood vacillated between fear and exhilaration.

I stepped off into the air.

I didn’t feel or hear anything during those seconds of pure free-fall. Suddenly, I was pulled up by the bungy cord, only to free-fall again. I had that feeling in my body, and I’m not talking about butterflies you get before a first date. If any animals were astir that day, they must have been frightened or excited by my screams. Squirrels and rabbits must have come out of their hiding spots; floppy ears must have stood erected.

I saw trees, I saw the forest; the serenity of it all with my head upside down and my hands out stretched, bouncing up and down in the air. The more the cord pulled me up, the longer I kept reliving the experience. It all looked different with my body upside down. I was in a tranquil area screaming. I screamed again, but at the end of the screams were wild bursts of laughter.

Do I want to bungy jump over land again? No. Over water? Yes!
