With Sharks in Guam
“You have this fear but you’re doing the most adventurous water sport!”
I had a fear of being submerged under water but went diving with sharks. After the briefing and signing of the waiver, I tried calling my mother, but she was unavailable at the time. I wanted to remind her of my plans, perhaps in an effort to calm myself. I suited up and we took some pictures before the great dive. It was time to enter the tank. When I disclosed my fear, the instructor was pleasantly surprised . “You’re doing the most extreme water sport,” he said. He was impressed and encouraged me. As I stepped on the ladder, I tried to not allow my fears to overpower me.
With each step, my fears dissolved, as I got lower and lower in the aquatic world.
Stay calm. You’re getting there.
I knew it would have gone well- with God’s help.
Once I was at the bottom, my fears were drenched with calmness. It was an indescribable experience swimming with sharks, rays and other aquatic creatures. I posed for pictures and made observations. I was enjoying the peace and quiet from the underwater world while gleefully communicating and using gestures with the instructors. When the instructors signaled to get out of the water, I signaled to continue. My reluctance to stop was astonishing. We playfully went back and forth until I conceded.
I had conquered my fear with God’s help!
More Adventures
The first extreme sport I did was bungy jumping. I signed the waiver, got ready, then made my way to the jumping platform…
“1-2-3 Go!”, were the instructor’s words as he counted for me to jump off the cliff. It was the biggest jump at 60ft+…
Donned in Arabian attire, I was ready to have a spectacular evening. This time I’d be having a dinner in the sky…

That’s so incredible. I don’t know if I would be able to dive like that, but it sounds like you had a wonderful time!
Thanks, Rhys! I was definitely nervous at first, but once you take that first step…!
